5 books that have helped me thrive in uncertainty
"It wasn't until I found the right subjects and story-tellers that I understood the power of reading. These 5 books are my top favourites covering topics in business, personal development, and spirituality.
#1: IF YOU NEED OVERALL GUIDANCE:
"High Performance Habits: how extraordinary people become that way" - by Brendon Burchard
I've read this book four times. I consider it the ultimate guide to taking responsibility for your life with practical tips on how to overcome common setbacks.
#2: IF YOU NEED A REMINDER OF TRUE STRENGTH:
“Daring Greatly” - by Brené Brown
Brené's work in demystifying vulnerability is vitally important. This book is a guide to lean into what makes us all human and connected.
#3: IF YOU NEED AN UNAPOLOGETIC KICK IN THE A**:
"Can't Hurt Me" - by David Goggins
DISCLAIMER: David's approach to life isn't for everyone. He writes like he speaks-- full of passion and (a lot of) profanity. This book makes you want to cry, while simultaneously drop down and do push-ups…
I personally resonate with his intensity, and when I opened the first page and read: "Prepare to go to war with yourself" I was hooked.
#4: IF YOU'VE BEEN FEELING STUCK:
“Mindset: The New Psychology of Success” - by Carol Dweck
This book was an eye opening read for me. It was uncomfortable to recognize how fixed my mindset had been for so much of my life. I felt a lot of defensiveness and insecurity come up while reading-- which is a clue it was just the book I needed at the time.
#5: IF YOU'RE FEELING STUCK, BUT NEED A LAUGH:
I adore this book! It's a peek inside Dan's journey of self discovery after having an anxiety attack on live TV. It's written with humour and vulnerability. A beautiful story that comically reveals the "humanness" of us all.
These are just a few of the books that have helped me along the way.
They happen to be written by recognized thought-leaders, but remember: We will never truly know all those we impact. Every person has the ability to make a difference.
You matter to someone, and that makes you an inspiration.
