From the Camera Roll: 2024 Recap
2024 turned out to be a BIG year for Leah Yard Designs. We had some major ups and downs, but throughout it all, you continued to cheer us on. Thank-you for making 2024 bright.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
We popped up at 26 events across 8 cities. We opened a temporary retail space inside District 1881 in Chilliwack, and at the Little Mountain Shop on Granville Island. Having a brick and mortar location really got our wheels turning for the future...
IN THE PRESS:
Every time LYD shows up in the media it is a "pinch us" moment! This year we were so honoured to be featured in VITA Daily, Georgia Straight, and ELLE Canada.
THE PODCAST:
The Voted Least Likely Podcast grew again this year. We had 10 new guests and the show was nominated for the Georgia Straight's BOV 2024 Award: Best Podcast in Vancouver.
IN THE STUDIO:
We launched 3 new collections this year, including our first Fine Line. This was a major milestone for us, and a project that had been years in the making. 2024 was also the year we launched our LYD Travel Case! We hosted 2 Sample Sales, and opened our studio up in December for in-person Holiday Shopping. We love having you in our space and look forward to hosting even more studio events in 2025.
A FEW THINGS WE DIDN'T CATCH ON CAMERA:
2024 was our biggest year in business, but it was also our most challenging. At LYD we value transparency and sharing both the highs and lows (which is what inspired the Voted Least Likely Podcast). Here's a few things that happened behind the scenes this year.
1. We had a 5-figure collaboration fall through
2. We made ZERO dollars at one of the events we participated in
3. Our application was rejected by 2 markets this year
3. We were rejected 100+ times for media features
4. We had a difficult partnership that put strain on the business
5. We had a chemical leak in the studio which ruined over $8000 worth of inventory
A NOTE FROM LEAH:
"If I’m honest, I was dreading going through the 2024 camera roll. The first half of this year was one of the most difficult times in business and life. I didn’t want to relive it. But I’m so glad I did.
Yes, this year we had some of the lowest lows. But when I look back I don’t see what almost broke me, I see what gave me strength: Our community.
You will never know how much your support means. In the darkest times I was inspired by your messages of encouragement. Your orders, 5 star reviews, inside jokes, and kind words are what turned this year into our biggest and brightest. 2024 will forever be the year that changed everything. You will forever be what made it possible. Wishing you a Happy New Year, I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together in 2025."
