What I've Learned About Jewelry After 10+ Years
Over the past decade, I've helped thousands of customers choose gifts, celebrate milestones, mark achievements, and build jewelry collections that become part of their everyday lives. Along the way, I've noticed a few patterns.
Here are some of the biggest lessons I've learned about jewellery after 10+ years.
1. The Pieces You Wear Most Aren't Always the Most Expensive
One of the biggest surprises has been seeing which pieces become customers' favourites.
It's rarely the largest gemstone or the most expensive necklace.
Instead, it's the piece that feels effortless. A necklace that works with every outfit, the earrings that make you feel put together, the bracelets you stack to add movement.
The best jewelry isn't always the most valuable piece in your collection. It's the piece you actually wear.
2. Most People Save Their Favourite Jewellery for "Someday"
I hear it all the time:
"I don't have anywhere to wear this" or "I'm saving it for a special occasion"
The problem is that special occasions have a way of passing us by.
I've become a big believer in wearing your favourite pieces now. Life is happening today. Whether it's a dinner with friends, a day at the office, or a walk through the city, those moments deserve to be celebrated too. Even a trip to the grocery store can be a little more fun with some jewels.
Jewellery shouldn't spend its life waiting in a box.
3. Confidence Matters More Than Rules
Can I mix metals?
Can I wear pearls casually?
Can I layer different chain lengths?
The answer is almost always yes.
Over the years I've realized that people spend far too much time worrying about whether they're wearing jewellery "correctly."
The most stylish people I know aren't following a set of rules. They're wearing pieces they love with confidence. Being playful with your jewellery box is one of the most underrated style tips I can give.
4. A Small Collection Can Go a Long Way
Think "Capsule Jewellery Collection"
Some of the most versatile collections I've seen are surprisingly small. The secret is, a few well-loved pieces that work together can create dozens of combinations.
I'd much rather help someone build a collection of five pieces they wear every week than twenty pieces that never leave the jewelry box.
5. The Right Piece Can Change How You Feel
There is an emotional side to the jewellery we choose to wear. A woman once bought a pair of our Diana Studs because she said they made her feel powerful. As someone who had an unglamorous journey (from growing up on a lighthouse island, to dropping out of high school, to stumbling into entrepreneurship), I know a thing or two about the power fashion has on how we are perceived in the world. The jewellery and clothes we wear say something about us before we even speak.
That's one of the things I love most about my job, witnessing the transformation someone goes through when they wear jewellery that elevates how they feel. Jewellery should always celebrate the wearer.
